I couldn’t agree more with Leanne (blog.healthy.co.nz/what-is-healthy-weight-loss/). the popular lemon detox or better known as the Master Cleanse diet may make you lose some weight, but starving your body of valuable vital proteins essential for normal cell functions is more detrimental.  I practice the lemon detox which consists of only drinking lemon juice with warm water to kick start my liver in the morning. I continue to eat normal the whole day. I do not go on any starvation. the lemon juice is part of my daily diet in the morning.  So far it has been effective to keep the flu away and keep my weight in check.

Lemons have been used for centuries holistically. however, it was not until this present day with the detox revolution that they have been so popular. They have been very under-rated for their actual capabilities of bettering overall human health. the basics of lemon detox, make it even more beneficial because they are simplifies tactics and methods of detoxing with lemons inexpensively. you can start a simple detox with these essentials:

  • Organic or fresh lemons without pesticides and chemicals
  • Purified warm or room temperature water
  • A glass
  • A juicer or your hands

SUGAR detox diets are the latest weapon in the battle against the bulge, with many people so hooked on the sweet stuff they are scoffing twice the recommended daily amount - often without even realising it.

Even foods perceived to be healthy like low-fat yoghurts, juices, cereals and sauces are packed with hidden sugars.

This means people inadvertently eat far more sugar than they expect, leaving them craving the next fix.

And, just as smokers suffer withdrawals when they quit or cut back on cigarettes, so do people when they reduce their sugar intake.

Leading nutritionist Susie Burrell supports sugar detoxing, which she said can be achieved in a week.

"There are so many hidden sugars in foods that we are receiving double the amount," she said.

"Sugar is like a drug, the more you have the more you want it.

"After the first few days of cutting back on sugar people will find it hard. But then their bodies will get used to it and they won't have those cravings."

Sugar would pose no health issues if we were more active, ate less of it and did not mix it with other fatty foods.

"for most of us a spoon of sugar in our tea or coffee is nothing compared with vast amounts of the white stuff we enjoy in soft drinks, spreads, sauces, cakes, desserts, snacks and treats," Ms Burrell said.

"more evidence is mounting that the taste for exceptionally sweet foods is almost addictive, with the brain wanting more to give it its daily hit."

Ms Burrell suggests cutting out all sugars for a week - including reducing fruit as it is naturally sweet - until the body is used to bland foods again.

After a week, re-introduce fruit and then foods will generally begin to taste sweeter, and you will need less of sugary products.

'Sugar can play havoc with our insulin and some people report getting home and being ravenous," Ms Burrell said.

"People report feeling lethargic, tired - and that's all because of too much sugar."
