Cleansing is the way to go

Some diets are very challenging, you need to prepare yourself before you start the method. Starters consider ‘detox diets’ as challenging because some cleansing diets do not involve food during the entire process, instead the dieter only take liquid to release toxins, thereby, cleansing the body. the best thing in detox diet is that, it is cheap. in fact, the process will help you save--perhaps a lot--for not spending money for food and unhealthy beverages like soda.

One of the most popular ‘detoxification programs’ is the Master Cleanse, also known as the Lemon Detox Diet and Maple Syrup Diet, a liquid diet created by alternative medicine practitioner Standley Burroughs in 1941 and promoted by Peter Glickman in the 90s.

A star’s preference

the diet is so popular and, in fact, former Destiny’s Child singer and award-winning performer Beyoncé Knowles openly admitted to have lost 20 pounds in 10 days--during the filming of Dreamgirls—when she turned to the Master Cleanse method. though Beyonce said that she also ate vegetables during the 14 days that she followed the diet, still for her, it was the quickest way to shed pounds so far.

"I was cranky," Beyonce admitted to Oprah about her emotional state while on the Master Cleanse diet fast. "People were eating Krispy Kreme Doughnuts around me."

Beyonce's soul diva character in Dreamgirls began at the age of 16, and the movie followed her skyrocketing trail to superstardom over 20 years. Beyonce said she felt like a real actress for the first time during her performance in Dreamgirls and her on-screen persona required her to undetgo a quick yet authentic physical change. According to her, her nutritionist suggested “the only way to do that was the [Master Cleanse or the] Maple Syrup diet.”

the goal here is to remove all harmful and nonspecific toxins as well as cure ulcers and general panacea, albeit there is no scientific evidence to prove this. Proponents also claim that this diet eliminates cravings for drugs, tobacco, alcohol, food, coffee, tea and other hot drinks. though unlikely to be harmful over the short term, generally all detox diets can be harmful in the long run. That’s why I would like to stress that this article aims solely to inform, therefore this is not to be taken as a medical advice.

for healthy people, the body is designed to eliminate normal toxins through the lungs, kidneys, liver and other eliminator organs. But nutritionists point out to a lack of essential nutrients in this program, citing deficiency of protein, vitamins and minerals in the regimen. because of such deficiencies, not to mention far fewer calories than the recommended dietary amount for optimum functioning, dieters may experience weight loss, headaches and a variety of other symptoms in the short term and the diet. although Master Cleanse is such a simple program, nutritionists also noted that the diet is potentially harmful over the long term.

Components

You will only need a few ingredients and an able body and prepared mind. the method involves drinking only a mixture of fresh lemon juice, grade B maple syrup and cayenne pepper, as well as laxative tea and/or a saline solution (I prefer laxative tea) to flush out the lower gastrointestinal system. no solid food is eaten for the entire cleanse.

if you’re ready, you can start the method anytime. first, squeeze Fresh Lemon Juice, then add Rich Maple Syrup, and Cayenne Pepper into Pure Water. Drink a minimum of six to 12 glasses throughout the day whenever one is hungry. Take a laxative or do the Salt Water Flush in morning and/or evening (depending on your preference). To most people, it is the growing sense of control every day that they overcome the psychological need to eat that motivates them to complete the diet.

Most practitioners won’t recommend a less-than-10-days duration, although it is already a great achievement and will produce good results as your body. for beginners, 14 days is very challenging but the most ideal.

the three phases

there are three phases to the diet: the Ease-in phase, the Lemonade Diet and the Ease-out. the first phase is not as important as the Ease-out or the Post-Diet Routine. As stated earlier, you could skip the Ease-in completely and begin directly with the Lemonade Diet anytime. for Ease-in, you can either eat live food for three days prior the Lemonade diet or juice blends, broths and soup. This is enough to prepare your body for the transition.

whether you begin the Lemonade Diet immediately without going through the Ease-In, the process is the same. the first Master Cleanse variation revolves around timing your daily flush. It is crucial to flush out the toxins your body is eliminating, and since you are not consuming digestible food (fiber) to create a bowel movement, you will have to make that happen through laxative tea or the sea salt solution. It is this process that cleanses your body of the waste and toxins.

in the morning, prepare your lemonade—your nourishment and energy source to go through the day. Drink your Lemonade fresh. the key to the Master Cleanse is the fresh lemon juice, and the living enzymes that it contains. twelve glasses per day should be your starting point from which you will make adjustments. then drink pure water throughout the day. You can drink as much water as you do lemonade. Water does not only cleanse your palate of the lemonade but is also the key factor in why this cleanse is successful.

During your bowel movement, your eliminations will be mostly liquid. You will only notice smaller material and clumps of thicker waste. Don’t expect large solid movements of any kind. You should be encouraged that even on day-10 you still have dark liquid in your first movements of the day.

the final stage

the Ease-out process or the last phase is the most essential step. This is exactly the same as Ease-in phase, in reverse. You can become nauseated if you start to eat too soon. You do risk some serious constipation or some of the worse complications of the Master Cleanse – but if you eat something too soon, you will likely be alright. if you are unsure, consult a doctor.

the most important factor to keep in mind during this stage is to drink a lot of water especially when you are fruit juicing and vegetable juicing. Fruit or vegetable juice with its great deal of fiber as well as enough water in your system will keep you from becoming constipated. Gradually, you can do the “living food diet” but you need only to eat live foods. Simply remove processed foods, meat and dairy from your diet A 60/40 balance of vegetables to fruits is a good guideline.

Finally, adopt a healthy lifestyle. You wouldn’t want to keep on doing the Master Cleanse for the rest of your life (or maybe you do). Eating wisely is your most essential step and ideally, you will have to do this for-the-rest-of-your-life. As what I’ve stated in the previous diet articles, this sounds so simple, yet so many people go right back to eating emotionally to sooth their daily worries. It’s simple: eat wisely and you will not put the weight back on, eat poorly and you will gain back all the weight you just lost – and maybe more.
