It's always nice to get "healthy". This is a great plan if you eat all the time and know how to prepare lots of different types of food. However, if you are a small eater and don't know how to prepare food all you have left is the preachy part of the book. Not that that's bad... I would recommend this to anyone who is trying to change around their eating habits. I found it to be very helpful; except, that I couldn't eat all of the meals in a day and I didn't know how to prepare most of them. So I took from them what I could and found the Bible references helpful. It's a good how to book.

I loved this book! It was such a great program to follow, albeit time-consuming. But I figured it's either take the time NOW and learn a new way of living or have a whole lot of time on my hands after being admitted to a hospital for some degenerative disease or spending the end of my life in nursing facility (where my mother is right now), neither of which do I plan to do.

As a Christian I loved the fact that it gives daily devotions that made me focus on why I was detoxing and fasting, from both a physical and spiritual perspective. I journaled my entire 27 days so far. It was an excellent way of beginning to renew my mind and really examine myself as God's Word commands. I imagine if you're not a Christian you might be offended by the Biblical references throughout but I found them to be a cleansing tool for my soul, mind and spirit. It's an icredible way begin to learn to walk in the Spirit and crucify the flesh (you know, that unruly fleshy thing I live in that has been dominating my choices for too long!)

I felt like a drug addict in rehab during this program as I noticed how my body reacted to what others were eating. It's amazing how addicted we can become to some of the most unhealthy food and not even realize or acknowledge that we are using food like a drug! It gave me a whole new perspective on those who are in drug rehab (as my nephew was many times before his premature death). It's not easy to give up habitual choices we've made time after time for so many years but I am living proof that we can. I bought this book three years ago and tried reading it then and used it for about a day and that was it. It sat on my bookshelf until last month when I finally made the choice to begin living healthy. It really is a mindset. The way we think will determine the way we live. We either make death choices or life choices and we do reap what we sow.

The recipes included were very tasty and satisfying. And I appreciated the fact that the first 20 days of the program prepare your liver for the fasting part of the program by cleansing the liver with liver-friendly foods. Most of the juice recipes were tasty too.

I found the juice fasting during the last week has been the hardest part, especially after the third day, but I have stuck with it and tomorrow is my 28th day. Yeah!!!! And day 29 will be the beginning of my new and healthier life.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is serious about changing the way they think about food and living a healthy life.

Thank you Dr. Colbert for "writing down the vision and making it clear so that I could run with it!" Habakkuk 2:2

There are so many things wrong with this book, I don't even know where to start.

FIRST of all, the title of this book is VERY misleading because this book only lightly touches on fasting and the part that discusses cleansing is weak, at best, and only deals with the liver.

Secondly, this book reads more like a Bible advertisement than a how-to detox book. The author concentrates more on the spiritual/religious aspect of fasting than anything else, including the actual process of detoxing and fasting itself. Colbert does explain a little about the importance of liver detoxing and why that is the organ he has chosen to cleanse, but the pages are laden with passages from the Bible and exercises to bring you closer to God and your faith.

Thirdly, the plan he puts forth as one that will effectively cleanse the liver and prepare it and the rest of the body for a week long juice fast is severely lacking. It's nothing more than a diet of unprocessed foods and cutting out those that most commonly cause food allergies in people (corn, soy, wheat, etc.). He explains that the foods he instructs you to eat will put less of a toll on the liver because they are close to their natural state. He also advises on a small supplement regimen to compliment his liver "detox."

Lastly, but not leastly, he doesn't even offer any juicing recipes for the week that you're actually to undergo fasting. Nor does he offer any tips or hints on how to get through 7 days of not consuming any solid food, which I believe is essential in ANY book about fasting as most Americans, especially those new to fasting, are not at all familiar with withholding food from themselves. He doesn't even suggest the tapering off of foods before you begin the juice fast, which is an element almost every cleansing/fasting book touches upon.

The only reason I gave this book two stars is because the recipes he includes in the book (as those that the reader is to eat while detoxing the liver) are both healthy and full of variety. The recipes have something for everyone and cater to a large audience of tastes.

When all is said and done, though, this book was a huge letdown and not worth getting unless you're looking for a tutorial in Catholicism.
